Before Anesthesia
Before Anesthesia at Oral Surgery +
Before undergoing anesthesia for your oral surgery, it is crucial to follow specific guidelines to ensure your safety and the success of your procedure. Please read the instructions below carefully, and feel free to reach out to our office if you have any questions or concerns.
Fasting
You must refrain from eating or drinking anything, including water, for at least 8 hours before your surgery. This fasting period helps to prevent risks like aspiration during anesthesia.
Medications
Notify your oral surgeon about all the medications you are currently taking, including prescription, over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, and supplements. Your surgeon will guide you on which medications to continue and which to temporarily stop before surgery.
Clothing
Wear loose, comfortable clothing, especially with sleeves that can be rolled up if IV sedation will be used. Avoid wearing contact lenses, jewelry, or any accessories that may interfere with the surgery.
Transportation
Make sure to arrange for a responsible adult to accompany you to and from your appointment. After receiving anesthesia, you won’t be able to drive or operate machinery. Your companion should stay at the office during the procedure and be available to assist you afterward.
Health Conditions
If you develop a cold, fever, or any illness before your surgery, please contact our office immediately. Your surgery may need to be rescheduled for your safety and the effectiveness of the procedure.
Follow Instructions
Be sure to follow any additional preoperative instructions your oral surgeon provides, such as specific oral hygiene steps or medications. These instructions are aimed at ensuring the best surgical outcome and minimizing the risk of complications.
By adhering to these pre-anesthesia instructions, you’ll help ensure a smooth and successful surgery. If you have any concerns or questions about your procedure or anesthesia, please reach out to our office. We’re here to offer the best care and support throughout your treatment.
